Does Paintballing Hurt the Environment?
By: Toby McAlister
Recently I conducted a survey. This survey was meant to find out what people think about it hurting the environment. Out of 9 surveys, 5 said it did, 3 said it did not and 1 didn’t make sense. But out of the 5 that did, it seems that the biggest concern was that it’s paint and the shells are plastic or something like that. In fact, all paintballs are biodegradable!
“A paintball is a thin-skinned gelatin capsule with a colored ‘paint’ inside. Paintballs are similar to a large vitamin capsule or bath oil beads and are non-toxic, biodegradable, water soluble and rinse out of clothing and off skin with just water. When a paintball ‘tags’ a player, it leaves a brightly colored ’splat’ that can easily be removed before the next game starts.” (obtained from http://www.paint-ball.org/paintball/paintballs.htm)
As you can see this is from a legit and plausible website with reliable information. If you go to the URL I have provided, you can see a video of them being made.
So why are people so ignorant and just decide they hurt the environment? I personally think that people just hear PAINTball and see the crispy shell, which does indeed look like plastic, and just assume that’s what it is. It’s so harmless someone could eat one and be fine, besides the awful taste that comes along with it. (I’ve tried it.)
Hopefully this opens your eyes to realize that paintballing really isn’t as harmful as some have been led to believe.
