Long boarding Vs. Skateboarding
Category: Sports
Long boarding and skateboarding are not as different as people think. I am going to explain the differences between the two.
- Obviously a long board has a longer deck then the average skateboard deck. The typical long board length is 42’ – 46’ inches. But you can get other sizes depending on your riding style.
- Skateboards are meant for doing tricks in skate parks or in the streets. The skate deck is shorter than a long board so it can rotate easier.
- A skateboard also has a tail, and a nose. They are used to do tricks like ollies and kick flips. Some long boards only have tail for some tricks.
- Long board trucks are generally wider than skateboard trucks. They also tend to have bigger wheels. The average skateboard wheel is about 54mm while a long board wheel is around 72mm.
- There are different kinds of riding for skating like; transition, vert, and street. Street is usually riding through the streets and finding ledges, drops, stairs and rails. When your street skating you tend to bomb a lot of hills, like long boarding.
- Most people use long boards for either transportation or to just bomb hills. Long boards are more comfortable for transportation because of how big the wheels are. The wheel size makes it a smoother ride if they are bigger, or bumpier if they are smaller.
- Skateboards have smaller wheels because it helps the board flip easier and it doesn’t weigh as much.
The bottom line: if you’re looking to do tricks, get a skateboard; if you want to cruise down hills fast, then get a long board.
