Arizona Bill calls for public discrimination?

The state of Arizona has just passed a law on immigration that has become very debatable over the last couple of weeks. The law clearly states that a cop can ask any person to produce their credentials, and if that person is unable to produce such registration it is legal to arrest said person. This seems, from afar, a decent law to remove illegal immigrants from the United States. There are among 10 other states that are considering enforcing the same law. From another perspective this could very well be racial profiling at its strongest in our country. If the officer gets to decide whom he wants to ask for credentials then would it be considered racial profiling? Would he ask a Latino as he would ask a Caucasian? Or would the cop use the law to support his own political views? These questions have to be asked to examine if this law is adequately solving the problem or creating another, which may lead to even larger problems. A Republican representative, John Kavanagh says this about the new policy, “A comprehensive immigration enforcement bill that addresses the concerns of our communities, constituents and colleagues…” This claims that it is better for our community and acts as a tool to fight against this so called ‘rising terror’. The Catholic Archbishop of Los Angeles calls it a mandate for “German Nazi and Russian Communist techniques”. Both of these leaders show that it is a heavily debated issue which needs much attention. Personally the bill does seem to be causing more problems than actually fixing anything. The idea of illegal immigrants is somewhat of a problem in this country I strongly discourage reverting back to segregation and singling people out. I say this because if we leave this up to the average cop who knows what his personal beliefs on the subject are, and if he strictly pulls over Latino people (doesn’t just do his job) then we are taking a step backwards in time, a time that really doesn’t need to be reworked and redone. Ban the bill!!
