Rain

I wish to feel the rain.

Feel the blissful cool.

Splattering heavily against my brow.

The windshield prevents this, clouded with steam.

I see two lights, fast approaching.

I swerve to avoid them.

Too late.

Tearing metal.

A screech of protesting brakes.

The world suddenly spinning.

Shattering glass.

A flash of red.

Copper musk in the air.

Darkness.

****

Flashing red and blue lights.

Distant voices.

Blood on the steering wheel.

Blood everywhere.

My blood.

Rain.

Dripping softly in.

Cold.

Numb.

Darkness

****

Blinding light.

Pain.

Too much pain.

Distant voices.

Can’t feel my legs.

Gone.

Darkness.

****

Whispering voices.

Soft yellow light.

Hard to breathe.

Figures.

Silhouetted in the shadows.

Blurred.

Racking pain.

Voices fading.

Darkness.

****

I can see her.

Crying for the last time.

Surrounded.

Angels they are.

Pain.

Too much pain.

Darkness closing in.

Cold.
A final goodbye.

Soothing warmth.

The pain.

Gone.

The rain is there.

Welcoming me home.

Never to be seen.

Memories fade.

Just her and only her.

Darkness.

Forever.
